What this does and doesn't cover: URDB tracks tariffs filed with the NJ Board of Public Utilities. It stores each rate class as one continuously-revised record before ~2016, so pre-2016 history isn't recoverable as discrete dated points from this dataset (only the latest snapshot survives) — that's why both series start in March 2016. No new PSE&G residential or GLP rate filing appears in this database with an effective date in 2020 — the rate that took effect June 2019 stayed in force through May 2021, a two-year span, for both classes. The numbers plotted are each class's base/winter energy rate; PSE&G's actual tariffs use two seasonal rate periods, and residential additionally has a summer inclining-block tier above 600 kWh/month (see the residential table). The commercial line is not a full GLP bill: unlike residential service, GLP is demand-metered — PSE&G bills a separate flat demand charge of roughly $4–14 per kW of peak demand per month (lower in summer, higher in winter) on top of the per-kWh rate charted here. For a business with meaningful peak demand, that charge can be a large share of the total bill and isn't captured by this line.
